General introduction:

Department of Mechatronics is one of four training departments in the School of Mechanical Engineering of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, established on November 18, 2021 under Decision No. 2598/QD-ĐHBK-TCCB, inheriting and developing from the Department of Mechatronics and a number of specialized groups participating in training in the field of Mechatronics. The Department consists of 8 professional groups: Intelligent Mechatronics, Robot, Automated Production Systems, Automated Equipment, Applied Mechanics, Materials and Structural Mechanics, Mechanical Systems Design, Innovative Design. The total number of staff of the Department is 71 (including 61 teaching staff and 5 technical staff, including 3 professors, 17 associate professors, 37 PhDs, 14 MScs). The training scale is approximately 4000 undergraduate students (annual enrollment target of 1100 students), about 100 master students and 20 doctoral students. In 2020, the Department’s training disciplines, in the field of Mechanics – Aviation – Manufacturing, were ranked 351-400 by the prestigious international ranking organization QS in the world, up 100 places compared to 2019. The training program operated by the Department includes: Advanced Mechatronics programme taught in English (Cooperation with the University of Adelaide, Australia), Mechatronics programme in cooperation with Nagaoka University (Japan), LUH Mechatronics programme in cooperation with Leibniz University Hannover (Germany), Talented Mechatronics Programme and Mechatronics Engineering programme.

The training programs are designed according to the CDIO approach, are always renewed and updated, and are assessed for quality by AUN/QA (Southeast Asia). Advanced teaching methods, online teaching combined with traditional teaching methods are applied, giving students the experience of technology and improving the quality of lectures.
Scientific research activities, public transfer and international cooperation have always been focused on by the Department of Mechatronics. Department staff presided over the implementation of many basic Nafosted research projects, ministerial-level projects. The activities of testing, consulting, assessment and technology transfer were carried out effectively and contributed significantly to the overall success of the Department. Department staff published many articles in prestigious domestic and foreign journals under the Scopus/ISI category .
The term 2021-2026 poses many opportunities and challenges in the context that Hanoi University of Science and Technology is taking solid steps in the process of comprehensive autonomy and is also an important term marking the model transformation and restructuring the establishment of the School. The Department sets the goal of stable and united development; breakthroughs in training, in research & innovation, in internationalization; promote key activities, take advantage of every opportunity and create the best conditions for individuals and units in the Department to develop together, become a prestigious training institution, gradually integrate into the region and international.
