Office: C3-201. Tel.: 024. 38680103.

The division includes 10 faculty members (2 professor, 3 associated professors, 4 doctors, 1 master) and 2 lab technicians.

Facilities

  • Office room (201-C3),
  • The lab of strength of materials (101, 103 C3),
  • The lab of plastics and composites (T building).

Why undergraduate students should prepare their final thesis in the group of “Mechanics of materials and structures

  • Undergraduate students will learn through their final thesis modern knowledge and skills to analyze the mechanics and multi-physics of materials and structures that are widely used in the industries and daily life from automobiles, hand phones to structural members and machine components.
  • They will learn how to use industrial software packages in the design and evaluation process.
  • Many former students have been studying abroad and working in companies and groups of motors, automobiles as well as in other industrial sectors with good positions as R & D, CEA, QC, design… engineers.

Main courses

  • Courses in the field of “Mechanics of solids”: Continuum mechanics; Strength of materials; Theory of elasticity; Theory of plasticity; Fracture mechanics; Structural mechanics; Plates and shells
  • Courses in the field of “Numerical methods”: Finite element method, Computational polymeric fluid dynamics
  • Courses in the field of “Mechanics, multi-physics of polymer & composites”: Plastic and composite materials, Mechanics of plastic and composite materials, Polymer rheology, Polymer processing technology; Advanced processing technologies

History

  • On February 10, 2022, the department “Mechanics of materials and structures” was reorganized and renamed as the group of “Mechanics of materials and structures”, belongs to the department of mechatronics, school of mechanical engineering.
  • In 2012, the department “Mechanics of materials and structures” was founded from the reunion of the department of Mechanics of Materials, and the department of Strength of Materials.
  • In 2008, first students of processing of plastics and composites were graduated.
  • In 1995, first students of Mechanics-Informatics were graduated. The field of Mechanics-Informatics was later replaced by Mechatronics in the school of mechanical engineering.
  • In 1970, the department of Applied Mechanics was founded, renamed by the department of Mechanics of Materials in 1995, to teach the course “Applied Mechanics” (a reduced course including statics, kinematics, kinetics, theory of machines and mechanisms, elements of machines, strength of materials) and the course “Non-metallic materials” (later renamed by the course “Plastic and composite materials”).
  • In 1957, the department of Strength of Materials was founded to teach 2 courses “Strength of materials” and “Structural mechanics”.
