Following the brilliant successes achieved during the opening months of the year, entering the second quarter of 2026, the Joining and Welding Research Institute HUST-UOsaka (JWRI HUST-UOsaka Center) has maintained its vibrant momentum. The Center continues to make powerful strides across three core pillars: elevating high-quality training, advancing pioneering applied research, and expanding its global cooperation network.
STEADY GROWTH AND INTERNATIONAL NETWORK EXPANSION AT JWRI HUST-UOSAKA

1. Elevating Academic Training Bound with Industrial Practice and Innovation

In early April 2026, the academic atmosphere at the Center was highlighted by the successful Master's thesis defense of postgraduate student Nguyen The Anh. His research topic, "Research on the effect of alloying elements on the weldability of low-temperature brazing filler metals," represents one of the pioneering directions at the Center. This research directly addresses emerging application trends in the semiconductor field, particularly in advanced electronic component packaging (3D packaging).

The Center's excellence in education was demonstrated not only through rigorous academic research but also through the outstanding practical capabilities of its students. On May 15-16, 2026, two student teams representing the Center competed in the Golden Hand Cup organized by the Vietnam Welding Society (VWS). Showcasing exceptional technical skills, both teams successfully secured the Third Prize in two highly challenging categories: virtual welding and cobot welding (collaborative robots).

2. Advancing In-Depth Research and Solving Strategic Enterprise Challenges

In parallel with academic training, industrial collaboration and specialized applied research have continued to yield significant results. On April 21, 2026, Dr. Han Le Duy (Deputy Director of the Center), serving as the Project Principal Investigator, successfully chaired a specialized phase-1 progress seminar with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN). The key project, "Research and evaluation of the remaining lifetime of main steam pipes and final superheaters affected by thermal creep mechanisms and an approach to evaluating thermal fatigue in PVN's thermal power plants," addresses a vital industrial problem, offering solutions to ensure structural safety and optimize operational efficiency for PVN.

Furthermore, the Center engaged in highly productive working sessions with JSOL Corporation (Japan) to discuss and finalize comprehensive cooperation frameworks for advanced training and joint research initiatives focusing on cutting-edge welding simulation.

3. Deepening Global Footprints through Foreign Affairs and International Alliances

The second quarter of 2026 marked a major milestone in high-level academic exchanges and international diplomacy for the Center. On April 17, 2026, the Center organized a bilateral academic symposium featuring prominent researchers from the Military Technical Academy and Dr. Giulio, a Research Fellow from the Center for Advanced Metrological and Technological Services (CeSMA), Department of Chemical, Materials and Industrial Production Engineering at the University of Naples Federico II (Italy). The experts engaged in deep academic exchanges regarding the state-of-the-art developments in metal 3D printing and the integration of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms in welding technologies.

The pinnacle of the Center's international diplomacy occurred on May 16, 2026, when JWRI HUST-UOsaka took great honor in welcoming an elite global delegation comprising over 30 international experts and executives. The delegation included leaders from the world's most prestigious welding institutions: the American Welding Society (AWS), the Russian Welding Society (RWS), the Japan Welding Engineering Society (JWES), the Indian Institute of Welding (IIW), along with key member representatives of the Asian Welding Federation (AWF). This historic visit strongly underscores the rising international prestige and recognized position of JWRI HUST-UOsaka on the global welding technology map.

Concluding a remarkably active quarter, on June 11, 2026, the Center received Professor Oh from the Kumoh National Institute of Technology (South Korea). This strategic meeting successfully opened new horizons for bilateral student exchange programs, exclusive postgraduate scholarship opportunities, and prospective joint research collaborations in the near future.
