SCHOOL OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND WOODSLAND JOINT STOCK COMPANY SIGN MOU TO FOSTER INDUSTRY–ACADEMIA COLLABORATION

On July 2, 2026, the School of Mechanical Engineering (SME), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), and Woodsland Joint Stock Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Woodsland's manufacturing facility, establishing a strategic partnership to strengthen cooperation in education, applied research, technology transfer, and human resource development.

    The signing ceremony was attended by Assoc. Prof. Truong Hoanh Son - Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Tran Dang Quoc - Head of the School Office; Prof. Vu Toan Thang - Head of the Department of Mechatronics; Assoc. Prof. Khong Vu Quang - Head of the Department of Vehicle and Energy Conversion Engineering; together with representatives of the School's academic departments, research centers, and faculty members.

   Representing Woodsland were Mr. Hoang Huu Phuong, Deputy General Director; Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung, Production Director; Ms. Pham Thi Theu, Human Resources Manager; and members of the company's leadership team.

Mr. Hoang Huu Phuong delivered the opening remarks at the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony.

   Welcoming the delegation from HUST, Mr. Hoang Huu Phuong highlighted that the signing ceremony was the result of a series of constructive discussions between the two organizations. He expressed his confidence that the partnership would create long-term value by connecting academic expertise with industrial practice through collaborative research, talent development, internship opportunities, and technology-driven innovation.

   As one of Vietnam's leading manufacturers of wood products and interior furniture, Woodsland employs approximately 3,000 people and operates a headquarters and manufacturing facility in Hanoi, together with four factories in Tuyen Quang Province. The company supplies high-quality products that meet international standards and is actively investing in advanced manufacturing technologies.

    Introducing the School, Assoc. Prof. Tran Dang Quoc presented SME comprising four academic departments and three research centers, with 268 faculty and staff members and nearly 10,000 students. The School currently offers 13 academic programs from bachelor's and advanced engineering degrees to master's and doctoral education while maintaining extensive partnerships with industry to promote practice-oriented learning and innovation.

    During the technical discussion session, Woodsland introduced several real-world engineering challenges for potential collaboration. The company is seeking support in optimizing production lines, integrating automation systems, improving the utilization of specialized woodworking equipment, developing robotic material-handling solutions, digitalizing manufacturing management, and advancing toward smart factory implementation.

     The company also shared a number of practical research topics that will be jointly explored with the School's departments and research groups, creating opportunities for collaborative R&D while addressing real industrial needs.

    In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Truong Hoanh Son emphasized that strengthening partnerships with industry is a strategic priority for the School of Mechanical Engineering. By combining the expertise of its faculty and researchers with practical industrial challenges, the School aims to accelerate innovation, promote technology transfer, and enhance the quality of engineering education.

     He noted that, following the signing ceremony, the School's departments and research groups will work directly with Woodsland's technical teams to develop collaborative research projects and engineering solutions. The partnership will also provide students with valuable opportunities to participate in industrial internships, particularly through the six-month Advanced Engineering Internship Program, enabling them to gain hands-on experience in a modern manufacturing environment.

     The five-year Memorandum of Understanding provides a framework for long-term cooperation in education, scientific research, innovation, technology transfer, and workforce development. Through this partnership, both organizations reaffirm their commitment to building a sustainable industry–university collaboration that contributes to technological innovation, industrial competitiveness, and the development of highly qualified engineering talent for Vietnam.
